Baosteel Zhanjiang Iron and Steel's million-ton hydrogen-based shaft furnace will start construction on February 15, 2022. Its main facilities include shaft furnace body, shaft furnace charging and discharging system, product cooling system, gas loop system, raw material input and finished product output system, as well as supporting pellet supply system, energy public auxiliary system and information system. Based on independent integrated innovation, Baosteel Co., Ltd. Zhanjiang Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. has for the first time applied self-developed refractory materials and equipment such as the 112-meter vertical belt conveyor with the highest conveying height in China. The localization rate of the total weight of the project equipment and facilities exceeds 70%, actively promoting the high-end development of domestic manufacturing enterprises. Baosteel Zhanjiang Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. cooperated efficiently with Sinosteel International, Shanghai Baoye and other participating units to continuously overcome difficulties and bottlenecks, ensuring the overall control of project safety, quality and progress. The project was completed and put into production more than 2 months earlier than originally planned, once again showing the "Zhangang speed".

Different from the international regular method of using natural gas to prepare reduction process gas, the project adopts the "Hydrogen Metallurgical Electric Smelting Process" (HyRESP), which is the world's first initiative in Baowu. Through the green short process of hydrogen-rich gas purification, hydrogen-based shaft furnace reduction, carbon dioxide capture, direct reduction product cooling, etc, the innovative application of a series of leading technologies such as "direct reduction coke oven gas refining", "flexible process gas allocation" and "cold direct reduction iron product disposal and application" will be formed to accumulate experience for the subsequent independent integration and development of all-hydrogen smelting technology and the formation of low-carbon metallurgical technology with its own intellectual property rights, which is of great significance to the green and low-carbon development of the iron and steel industry.
